September 27 of every year has been set aside for the celebration of tourism across the globe by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
Annually, the Nigeria’s tourism sector joins the entire world to observe the day by having events and programmes that celebrate their diverse tourism potentials. The day is also dedicated mostly for discourses that improve the capacity of individuals and corporate organizations towards optimal performance as operators.
The United Nations World Tourism Organization determines the theme of the celebration annually. The theme of this year’s edition is “THINKING TOURISM”.
Meanwhile, Ekiti State Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism has directed its tourism sector known as ๐๐ค๐ข๐ญ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฆ to celebrate the event in a unique manner by domesticating the theme of the celebration.
The Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism, Prof Rasaki Ojo Bakare, who recounted the achievements of the Ministry, particularly in the aspects of tourism development, directed that the celebration be used to further mobilize Ekiti State tourism stakeholders to rededicate themselves towards: 1. optimization of the tourism prospects of the State, 2. taking concrete actions that should serve the various purposes which include all-round economic development, promotion of healthy means of recreation and 3. partnering towards the transformation of the State into a hub of global investment as well as a beehive of social activities.
This explains the choice of the theme of the celebration which is : Ekiti Tourism: Think. Act. Impact.
The Director of Tourism, Prince Adebanji Adelusi explained that the celebration of the World Tourism Day would hold on 1st October, 2022. This is to ensure that all operators of tourism are involved. He also gave insight into the activities lined up for the celebration which include a commemorative Mountain Hiking, photoshoot, a 15-minute lecture, dance and music. The event is tagged “Partying on the Rock” having scheduled it to be held on the plateau of the Tungba Crushed Mountain adjacent the Police State Headquarters, old Iyin Road, Ado-Ekiti. The event is to hold between 9a.m and 12 noon.
Being the first time the Ministry would be inviting all stakeholders to such an event, all corporate and individual operators are expected to be represented at the event.
